BEFORE WORKING AT KBS WHAT WAS THE MOST UNUSUAL OR INTERESTING JOB YOU’VE EVER HAD?

When I migrated to the US, I’ve worked for a couple of years as a caregiver. Although the job was not something that I like, but the pay was good enough.  After I completed my self-study on becoming a computer technician and got my certification, I got to work as a computer tech and as a tech support for a few years before moving up to a programmer position.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT WOULD SURPRISE US.

I love baking and even went to a formal baking school long time ago. Before moving here to the US, I worked as an IT Professional from 8 to 5 and goes home to work as a baker of my own small bakery. These days I bake for family and friends and still attend baking class occasionally.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SNACK OR JUNK FOOD?

Ensaymada is my favorite all time snack. It’s a type of Filipino soft, sweet dough pastry covered with butter and sugar, filled with purple yam and then topped with lots of grated cheese. This is also one of my favorites that I bake.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PROJECT SO FAR AT KBS?

My favorite project was the CSV Validator just because I was able to effectively utilize Object Oriented Programming and ES6 functions on it.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

Baking, billiard, bowling, small home/backyard projects and “escrima” or “kali” which is the national martial art of the Philippines, which emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticksknivesbladed weapons, as well as “open hand” techniques. I teach a small group including my daughter at my backyard whenever we have time.

WHAT ARE THREE CAREER LESSONS (OR SKILLS) YOU’VE LEARNED THUS FAR AT KBS?

From suitescript, integration and advanced PDF template, I’ve learned all this at KBS and I’m so ever grateful to Eric, Russell and my teammates.

I’ve also learned from KBS to be confident with my skills and improve my customer facing skills.

And every week, I learn a good behavior from KBS and my peers. This helps me improve not just professionally but personally as well.

What does his Manager say about him:

Gerald is an interesting story.  He began his career with KBS before me and was a business support analyst managing our support cases.  He progressed on his own toward becoming a developer by self-training.  His persistence paid off and he became a Jr. develop for KBS until he left the company to try his skills at Microsoft.  We stayed in touch, and when a Sr. developer position opened with KBS we lured him back to KBS and NetSuite.

He has become a very talented developer with exceptional scripting skills.  He also has become a valued resource for integration and is an expert at Jitterbit.

Gerald it a great employee, when you ask him to take a hill, he will teach himself how to do it.  There is no task to complicated for Gerald.
